Duke Stone of Cornwall design, supply and install premium bespoke stone surfaces including quartz worktops, granite, marble, porcelain and sintered stone for kitchens, bathrooms and luxury interiors across Cornwall. Working with homeowners, developers and designers in Truro, Falmouth, Newquay, Wadebridge, Padstow, Rock, St Austell and surrounding areas, we combine expert craftsmanship with contemporary coastal inspired design.
This dedicated wine room forms part of a completed private home near Mullion on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula. Set within a wider coastal build, the room combines dark timber cabinetry, integrated lighting and a long terrazzo-effect stone worktop fabricated and installed by Duke Stone of Cornwall.
The commission came directly to Duke Stone, with the team working alongside local building contractor D. J. Kevern Ltd. The property name and precise location remain private, but the finished interiors reflect the light, material contrast and carefully planned details of a contemporary home close to the coast.

The wine room was designed as a focused, atmospheric space rather than an extension of the main kitchen. Timber-lined walls and bottle racks create warmth, while slim linear lighting draws attention along the full length of the cabinetry. Against those darker finishes, the pale speckled worktop provides a practical serving surface and a strong visual contrast.
Location: Private coastal home near Mullion, Cornwall
Application: Bespoke wine room worktop
Appearance: Pale terrazzo-effect surface with dark and warm-toned aggregate
Duke Stone’s role: Templating, fabrication and installation

A wine room worktop needs to do more than fill the space between cabinets. It provides a useful surface for opening bottles, preparing drinks and setting down glassware, but it also sits directly within the line of sight created by the illuminated shelving.
Here, the fine-grained background and scattered darker fragments bring texture to the otherwise controlled palette. The worktop remains light enough to reflect the integrated lighting, helping the narrow room feel considered and welcoming without competing with the bottle display above.

The visual strength of the installation comes from its long horizontal line. Accurate templating and fabrication allow the worktop to sit cleanly between the cabinetry and mirrored wall, preserving the calm rhythm of the room.
Close views show how the polished surface responds to the slim lighting above. Reflections run across the worktop and emphasise its even finish, while the aggregate pattern prevents the large surface from appearing flat.

This was a direct Duke Stone commission rather than a kitchen showroom partnership. Close coordination with D. J. Kevern helped the stone element fit into the wider build programme and the finished joinery.
That relationship is particularly important in specialist rooms. Cabinetry, lighting, wall finishes and access all affect when a surface can be templated and how it should be installed. Planning those interfaces early helps the finished worktop feel integral to the room.
The completed room is restrained, practical and distinctive. Its character comes from a short list of well-resolved materials: warm timber, dark reflective panels, carefully integrated lighting and a pale speckled stone surface.
Rather than treating stone as a kitchen-only material, this project shows how a bespoke worktop can give a wine room its own identity and provide a durable surface for everyday use and entertaining.
