Duke Stone of Cornwall design, supply and install premium bespoke stone surfaces including quartz worktops, granite, marble, porcelain and sintered stone for kitchens, bathrooms and luxury interiors across Cornwall. Working with homeowners, developers and designers in Truro, Falmouth, Newquay, Wadebridge, Padstow, Rock, St Austell and surrounding areas, we combine expert craftsmanship with contemporary coastal inspired design.
At Gwithian Towans, pale stone surfaces bring together a generous island and an L-shaped perimeter run in a relaxed timber kitchen. Working with Meadows Kitchens, Duke Stone templated, fabricated and installed the worktops, including the waterfall island end and the openings for the sink and hob.
The softly mottled surface complements the pale cabinetry without competing with it. Carefully placed details allow the island to provide preparation, seating and storage while retaining a clean architectural outline.

Rather than finishing at worktop height, the stone turns down to the floor at one end of the island. This waterfall detail frames the seating area and gives the central element a deliberate furniture-like form.
The opposite face incorporates open shelving and a drinks cooler. Accurate measurement is important where the surface, end panel, cabinetry and seating overhang meet, keeping the edges aligned around several different functions.

On the perimeter, the pale worktop wraps the corner and continues beneath the wide garden window. A stainless undermount sink keeps the surface edge visible, while low upstands create a neat junction with the wall.
At the cooking area, the white range is framed by the same worktop and a simple vertical stone detail. Open oak shelves and birch-toned cabinetry keep this part of the room warm and informal.

This project shows how one restrained surface can connect an island, sink run and cooking area while allowing the cabinetry and coastal light to lead the design. The waterfall end gives the island a strong finish without making the room feel formal.

It is a vertical stone panel that continues from the worktop edge towards the floor, creating a framed end to an island or cabinet run.
